Engraved Gems ; enlarged one-quarter of a diameter. Treasure vaults at Curium.
i. Seal, Swivel. Silver and agate. Diameter i1 Vie inch. Scarab B/i6X7/i6 inch.
Tapering silver bow, ending in a shoulder. Scarab is well moulded; engraved with an
Egyptian design. A winged rayed disk is over all; in the middle is the boat of Ra, with high
bow and stern, each showing disk above. In the centre of the boat is a large disk flanked by
uraei, erect, each wearing disk. Below is a combination of the "lord" sign with lotus leaves and
blossoms. The entire decoration is surrounded by a plain oval. Cesnola, Cyprus, page 375 : 11 ;

2. Seal, Swivel. Silver and sard. Diameter i27/32 inch. Scarab ysxl/g inch.
Silver bow, tapering towards ends, but enlarged to a shoulder. Scarab seal, showing a
seated, winged hieracosphinx with tail erect, seated on a "gold" sign. In front is a stalk like a
thistle (a lotus?). Oval about whole. Cesnola,Cyprus, page 376: 17; plate XXXVII, 17.
3. Seal, Swivel. Silver and banded agate. Length i7/32 inch. Scarab 1Vi6X}4 inch.
Silver bow, with spool at back pierced lengthwise for wire; shoulders at ends next to seal.
Originally a wire passed through same and allowed the seal to revolve. The oval shows an imi-
tation of a cartouche flanked by uraei, and contains the letters EXI— (Exk) possibly a name. See
Cesnola, Cyprus, page 384: 19; plate XL, 19.
4. Seal, Swivel. Silver, gold and steatite ? Diameter 2 inches. Collet y^-%2 inch.
Tapering silver bow, drawn down to enter eyelets in gold collet. Seal is a well cut scarab,
the bottom of which shows a half prostrate person wearing the Osirian crown and offering a liba-
tion. Behind and above same is a cartouche containing the hieroglyphs which compose the
name of Thothmes III., and which were used on amulets buried with the dead: Ra-men-kheper,
" Ra make permanent." The remaining space is occupied by a winged uraeus. Cesnola, Cyprus,
