The holy eightfold Path which we
have mentioned in a previous chapter consists
of:—
(1) Right belief.
(2) Right aspiration.
(3) Right speech.
(4) Right conduct.
(5) Right means of livelihood.
(6) Right exertion.
(7) Right mindfulness.
(8) Right meditation.
It would be a gross unjustice to explain
these maxims, into which a holy life has been
analysed, in a few lines, yet we cannot
help it, considering the dimensions of this
booklet. To Buddhists, trained and well
versed in the traditions of their religion,
these pregnant maxims speak volumes. True
beliefs must be entertained, high aspirations
must be cherished, gentle words must be
uttered and a good conduct should be
welcomed at all times. Livelihood must be
sought for by fair means ; no pains should be
