future contingency of evil to the person sworn, his family or property.

XXVI. Nothing contained in this Regulation shall be construed to
empower the Court of Nizamut Adawlut to take cognizance of crimes or
offences committed previous to the tenth day of November, 1801, the date
of the cession of the provinces to the Honourable the English East-
India Company ; and all crimes and oifences committed subsequent to
the said date, and antecedent to the date of the promulgation of this
Regulation, shall be tried by the laws and Regulations which were in force
during that period.
