I. WHEREAS it has appeared expedient to establish the ofHce of
Canoongoe in the districts of the Twenty-four Pergunnahs, Nuddea,
Jessore, Dacca Jelalpore, and Bachergunge, and to extend to the said
districts the operation of Regulation XII. 1817, the following rules have
been enacted, to be in force from the date of their promulgation through-
out the aforesaid districts.
II. Canoongoes shall be appointed in the districts of the Twenty-four
Pergunnahs, Nuddea, Jessore, Dacca Jelalpore, and Backergunge, by the
collectors of those districts respectively, in the same manner, and for the
