description, not noticed on the proceedings of the court, to move the court
by petition, to be presented to the judge of the zillah within whose juris-
diction such vakeel or other person -so offending may be practising, for
infliction of the above tine, when incurred in any court within the zillah
or city jurisdiction, or if the vakeel so offending be an officer of the .Pro-
t'bmzh/ CWcrb or Sudder Dewanny Adawlut, then the collector shall make
application to those courts respectively, through the vakeels of Govern-
ment attached thereto, and the case shall be tried and adjudged by the
zillah judge, or by the judges of the Superior Courts, and their decision
respectively, as to whether the penalty has been incurred or not, shall be
final.

XIX. It shall and may be lawful for the Board or other controlling
authority, and for the collectors of land revenue or other officers vested
with the local charge of this branch of revenue, to summon witnesses, to
administer and affirmations, and to take affidavits and affirmations
with the same powers and authority in regard to resistance or disobedience
of their orders in this behalf, and in respect to contempts, as belong to the
zillah and city judges; and any person giving intentionally and deliberately
a false deposition on oa/A or upon solemn affirmation, when examined by See Act v.
anv of the authorities or officers aforesaid, shall be held and considered to
be guilty of perjury, and shall be liable to be prosecuted for the same in
the Criminal Courts by the vakeel of Government, and on conviction
before a q/' Cb'cab, shall incur the penalties which are or may be
prescribed for that offence.
XX. The zillah and city judges shall give effect to all orders passed by
the Board or other authority exercising the powers of control, or by col-
lectors acting under the authority hereinbefore vested in them, when the
same may require or adjudge confinement in the Dewanny gaol, of persons
convicted and sentenced to penalties, or of persons who may refuse to
make oa^A or to give evidence when legally required to do so, or who
maybe guilty of contempt.—Vendors convicted of extortion under the
ninth clause of Section X. of this Regulation, shall be forwarded to the
magistrate of the district to be confined in the criminal gaol.
XXI. Whenever the superintendent of stamps or his assistant, or any
other officer duly empowered thereto, shall proceed into the interior under
the orders of the Board or other controlling authority, or of the Governor-
General in Council, for the purpose of inquiring into any matter connected
with the management of the stamp revenue, or for any other purpose, he
shall be competent to exercise the power and authority of a collector of
revenue within the district or place to which he may so proceed, besides
any other powers and functions that may be vested in him by the
Governor-General in Council.
