21a. Dolciati Filippo di Lorenzo. Flor., b.

F. was married to Alessandra d’Andrea di Gio-

who named Bernardo and Zanobi di Lorenzo
Dolciati, his cousins, his heirs [Milanesi],
22. Dolzemele, Francesco; detto del, was

Flor., b. 1462, d. April 7, 1516. P. and Mettidoro
(gilder). Phy. A. Nov. 15, 1499, pictor nel Garbo
[Cod. X.]. S.L. (lib. rosso 1503-4). Although
included among the P.’s, F. was properly a gilder,
and appears to have done good work. Between
1504 and 1514 F. was employed, on various occasions,
by the monks of the Servi (SS. Annunziata). His
principal work was gilding (1504-5) the wooden
structure of the altar-piece, the panels for which
were finally painted (ornamento) for the Deposition
by Filippo Lippi and Perugino, which is now pre-
served in the A.M.G. The price agreed upon,
including all expenses, was 200 flor. larghi of gold.
This “ ornamento ” would appear to have been
carved by Baccio d’Agnolo.*
In 1502 F. rented the lower part of a house
belonging to the convent of the Badia under the
infirmary for 8 flor. larghi per annum and situate in
the Via del Garbo, where he had his bottega [A.S.F.
Con. Sop. Badia, 81, c. 372, also Memoriarum].
He is mentioned in the books of the convent in
1506 [A.S.F. ut sup. 82, 421] and again in April
1516, when there is an entry of a payment to F.
and his son Mariotto (the latter only received the
money, his father being dead) of 4 lire 10 sol. for
the painting (manifattura) and gilding of two paxes
for the sacristy [A.S.F. ut sup. 83, c. 28]. In 1511

F. may be found in Lib. Deb. e Cred., 1491-1505,
id. 1505-15 (1502, 1505); Lib. Bianco Deb. e Cred.,
1504-10, 1505; Lib. di Memorie, 59-1504.

F. assisted Andrea Feltrini in painting and gilding,
for flor. 80 in gold, the antechamber of the Strozzi
palace, at the comer of the Piazza Strozzi.* F.
belonged to the pop. S. Piero Gattolino. Father

* In 1513/14 Francesco was employed on the
paintings then being carried out in the Palazzo Vecchio,
with Ridolfo del Ghirlandajo, Giovanni Cianfanini and
Paggino di Zanobi. The following entries in the
Stanzamenti degli Operaj del Palazzo dal 1512 al 1532
[A.S.F., No. 951, d. VIII. No. 25, St. III. arm. II.]
refer to Francesco : “ 1513, Oct. 3, 9 lire paid for

** On April 9, 1516, M. paid part of the rent of his
late father’s bottega, being paid at the same date for
the two paxes mentioned above. On May 6, 1518,
he handed over the keys of the bottega to the convent,
and on the 9th, with Zanobi, his partner (and brother),
paid up 2 flor. gold larghi in gold [A.S.F., Con. Sop.
Badia, 83, c. 281]. In 1525 it is recorded that
" bottega a uso dipintori,” opposite the church of S.
Apollinare, was let to him for three years. In 1530
he acknowledges that he is indebted to the convent
in the sum of 21 flor. 2 lire 18 s., while in 1531 the
bottega he had occupied was let to Tommaso d’ Antonio
di Filippo cartolaio [A.S.F., Con. Sop. ut sup. 263,
c. 15b 86*, 891].
