Of the Muscles of the Back and J^oinsi
WE lhall not insert the various
Opinions Authors have en-
tertained concerning these Mufcles,
since we have obierved (b great a
difference in divers Subjects, as hath
inclined us to think, that amongft

exactly alike in this resped:; which
might induce Fahfptts to that Inge-
^Inatom. nious Confession, that they seemed to
him to bean Indigelled Heap and con-
futed Chaos. In order to render ait
Account of them as explicit as we
can, we ihall consider them as Com-
mon to the Back and Loins, or as
Proper to either.
The Common are such as arise from
the one, and are Inserted to the other
as the Dorsi Longijjimi.
The Proper are either such as Arife
from the Os Sacrum or Ilium, and are
Inserted to the Vertebra of the Loins
only, as the Quadrati Lumhcrum , or
Arile from the Transvcrie Procesles,
