Slate Palettes.

Ob.iects in slate representing daggers, animals,
fish and human figures. Most of them have holes
drilled at one end, from whieh it may he assnmed that
they were snspended, others show a vrorn surface or a
small shallow cavity, often on both sides. This has
induced some archaeologists to call them palettes for

the crushing and grinding of stibium(Kohl), although

real

theirAuse has not as yet been satisfactorily deter-
mined . Similar obiects have heen found in the form 'of
worked trays.
