[221 x 157; subject, 174 X 148.] Watermark, a heart, pointed at the bottonr, as
in Ha. 56, witk a star on a line rising vertically trom tke top of tke keart; k. 58 mm.
Condition as no. (9).

In tke inventory of 1837.

Tke eleventk subject. It is difficult to say wkat incident is represented. Ckmelarz
(p. 292) interprets tke subject as tke landing of Perkin Warbeck witk Maximilian’s
support, but tkis is quite inconsistent witk tke text. Maximilian’s relations witk
Henry VII were connected witk tke Ducky of Brittany and Maximilian’s intended
marriage witk tke Duchess Anne. He was married to Anne by proxy in Marck, 1491.
Ckarles VIII, wko was betrotked to Maximilian’s daugkter, Margaret, repudiated tke
latter in November and married Anne of Brittanv on December 6tk. Maxirnilian,
failing to obtain subsidies for war from the Imperial Diet, inducedHenry VII, in 1492, to
make common cause witk kimself, and witk Ferdinand of Aragon, against Ckarles VIII.
Perkaps tkis agreement is tke subject of tke woodcut. Tke text, kowever, refers to tke
elose of a quarrel witk Henry ; and tke quarrel itself was caused by Henry’s action in
making peace witk Ckarles on 3 November, 1492, after crossing tke Ckannel and
laying siege to Boulogne in October. Maximilian afterwards revenged himself by
aiding Warbeck in 1495.

Anotker woodcut of tkis subject, by Wolf Traut, similar in composition, but witk
tkree skips, was used in all tke editiuns of tke complete Arck, and in edition D of tke
kistorical subjects.

[222 x 159 ; subject, 172 x 148.] Condition as no. (9).

In tke inventory of 1837.

Tlie twelftk subject. Repr. (G-lax B) Ilirtk, no. 595, Maximilian invaded Franche-
Comte late in 1492, entered BesanQon on December 21st, and by the peace of Senlis,
23 May, 1493, recovered tke greater part of Margaret’s dowry, Artois, Charolais, and
Franche-Comte, for kis son Pkilip.

(12.) The Expulsion of the Hungarians from Lower Austria.

(Springinklee.)

The subject represented is the bombardment and storming of a town
by Maximilian’s troops.

The text is in 7 lines, the last two being in smaller type : “Jam
pridem . . . subiugauerat.” (G-lax, p. 281.)

[220 x 152 ; subject, 172 x 150.] Condition as no. (2).

The thirteenth subject. Mattkias Corvinus, King of Hungary, kad overrun and
conquered a great part of Austria during tke reign of Frederick III. He took Viennain
1485 and Neustadt in 1487. On Mattkias’s deatk (6 April, 1490), Maximilian entered
Austria and expelled tke Hungarians in a few weeks.

(13.) The Campaign in Hungary. (Springinklee.)

Grseca).

The text is in 4^ lines : “ Quin vlterius . . . suam fecit.” (Glax,
p. 281.)

[216 x 150; subject, 170 x 150.] Condition as no. (2).

In tke inventory of 1837.

Tke fourteentk subject. After ridding Austria of tke Hungarians, Maximilian asserted
kis claiin to tkeir tkrone, according to tke terms of tke treaty of 1463. Tke Hungarian
