Photograph of an undescribed first state, in the collection of P. Gellatly, Esq., of
Loughton, Essex'. formerly in the Cornill d’Orville collection. The second large shield
r. contains the arms of Fiitterer; the other arms are the sanie as in no. 43. Tlie tablet
contains the following inscription, printed with type: “ mihe avtem adiie* | eere deo,
bonum est. | Ch. Sch. D. nascitur xi No | uemb. mcccclxxxi.” There are no inscrip-
tions on the margin.
Christoph Scheurl (1481-1542) married Katharina (1491-1543), daughter of Ulrich
Futterer and Ursula, by birth a Behaim, on 29 August, 1519.
That is, accordingly, the earliest possible date for this state, but the block may be
still earlier. for the Fiitterer arms could have been inserted ; tlie limits of the heraldic
desigu do not extend to the e.lge of the escutcheon.
