Signature: monogram on ground in centre near foot of plate, which is of irregular
shape.
Dale: probably 1496.
Watermarks : ‘ bull’s head ’ (Ha.r) ; ‘ high crown ’ (Ha.4).
According to Springer there are three states, for the existence of which I cannot
vouch, (a) Before the small vertical lines on the woman’s nose (no impression known
to Springer.). (6) With these lines, (c) The plate retouched.
The subject is obviously connected with the “ Dance of Death ” motive. See F. P.
