Signature: monogram below the date on a tablet leaning against the tree to left.
Date: 1523.
Drawing: the drawing at Vienna, L.581, in reverse, agrees with this engraving in
most respects, but the Apostle has a different attribute, a staff left incomplete at the
top, which was probably meant for the cross of St. Philip. L.582 and 583 are
drawings for other Apostles of the same series, which were not engraved. The absence
of a nimbus is unusual, and distinguishes this plate and the following from the earlier
members of the set of Apostles (Nos. 76 and 77),
