made. The designs are painted in two colors, red and
black; a broad band of red at base of neck; between and
overlapping this and a similar band on the shoulder, nar-
row parallel verticals of black; in the main zone, in
metopes are, alternately, red swastikas and red rectangles
once filled, to judge from the scant traces which remain,
with four black (hatched?) triangles, the widest angles of
which converge at the center of the rectangle; on the
lower part of the bowl broad vertical bands alternately
red and black reaching from a horizontal red line below
the main zone to the base; on the base a red cross.
4. Amphora. PL XII. M.S.1205, H. 0.119 m., D.
0.138 m. Intact. Fabric as in the foregoing. Wheel-
made. Good polish. Shape like that of spiral am-
phorae. Traces of extensive white decoration. On the
handles interwoven serpentine lines; on the neck, tongue
pattern or meander; on the body faint traces of pattern,
perhaps zones of small circles.
5. Two-handled Bowl. PL XII. M.S.1206, H.
0.06 m., D. 0.112 m. Intact. Fabric and technique as
in the foregoing. The handles at the top are rounded
and marked with transverse grooves; their outer faces
are widened into a flat triangle and ornamented with
impressed rope pattern. Midway between the handles
on the shoulder are ridges ornamented with rope pat-
tern, over which passes a horizontal band of rope pattern
at the base of the neck. Shallow flutings on the shoulder.
6. Cup. Pl. XII. M.S.1209, H. 0.048 m., D. 0.079
m. Chipped. Fabric as in the foregoing, completely
reduced. Handmade. Good polish. High angular
handle with strut, its outer face triangular, flat and per-
forated. The edge of the perforation, which is oval, is
notched; about the perforation are lines of impressed
rope pattern. The same pattern at base of neck. Four
radial grooves on floor of vase. Iron stains and ac-
cretions.
7. Similar Gup. PL XII. M.S.1210, H. 0.036 m.,
D. 0.071 m. Intact. Fabric and technique as in the
foregoing.
8. Stand. Pl. XII. M.S.1202, H. 0.065 m., D.
0.196 m. One lug and part of base restored. Surface
damaged. Fabric of medium fine texture, dark brown,
tinged with red, throughout. Handmade. Good polish.
Lip and circular area above foot grooved. Of the three
lugs preserved, one is smaller and perforated.
9. Stand. Pl. XII. M.S.1203, H. 0.158 m., D.
0.23 m. Intact. Similar fabric covered completely,
even the inside of foot, with cream slip. Handmade.
On the outside horizontal red bands; the upper surface
of the lip is grooved and its edge ornamented with trans-
verse red lines. Central disk and concentric circle of
red on the floor. Other pattern effaced.

10. Stand. Pl. XII. M.S.1200, H. 0.119 m., D.
0.189 m. Small restorations. Fabric and technique as
in the foregoing; the cream slip covers half of the interior
of the foot. On edge of flaring base transverse red lines;
on the rest of the outside, horizontal red bands. On the
upper surface of the lip transverse red lines; within the
grooves on the upper surface of the rim bands of red; the
concave circular portion of the upper surface is solid red;
over it is painted in black a cross, with four chevrons
between its arms.
11. Stand. Pl. XII. M.S.1201, H. 0.099 m., D.
0.199 m. Foot broken. Fabric of fine texture, quite
different from that of the foregoing, white, and free of
inclusions. Wheel-made. The shape is also different;
the stem is shorter, the horizontal rim broader, and the
profile of the concave part of the stand intermediate be-
tween rim and stem is sharply curved. On the outside,
horizontal red bands; on the upper surface between five
groups of parallel transverse lines, two rows of chevrons.
Floor of bowl solid red. Two string holes.
12. Shallow Bowl. Pl. XII. M.S.1207, H. 0.043
m., D. 0.171 m. Rim restored. Fabric and technique
as in the foregoing. On the upper surface of the rim
transverse lines; on the inside of the bowl bands of varying
width; on the outside vertical lines on the vertical surface,
and below these, groups of parallel curved lines between
bands; on the base connected chevrons.
13. Shallow Bowl. Pl. XII. M.S.1208, H. 0.054
m., D. 0.149 m. Mended. Fabric and technique as in
the foregoing. Transverse lines on the lip. Broad cir-
cles on the inside about a central disk, stripes of varying
width on the outside. Two string holes.
14. Painted Oinochoe. Pl. XII. M.S.1204, H.
0.162 m., D. 0.124 m. Intact. Fabric and technique
as in the foregoing. Upper part of lip, solid red; trans-
verse lines on outer flat surface of handle; a zone of
hatched triangles on the shoulder; on either side of the
handle, five upright lines; stripes of varying width on
body.
