body is ornamented with incised vertical lines in which
are traces of white pigment.
17. Oinochoe. Pl. XXXIX. M.S.945, H. 0.27 m.,
D. 0.19 m. Chipped. Fabric of very fine texture,
creamy white throughout. Wheel-made. Strap handle.
Neat plastic ridge at base of neck. The painted decora-
tion is executed in dull brick red pigment. The neck is
completely covered with this color; down the middle of
the handle a broad irregular band, on the edges of the
handle and of the rim a narrower band; on the shoulder
three groups of tongues, those next the handle longer
than the others; about the body of the vase a broad band
overlaid with purplish red stripes; on and above the foot
narrower bands. On the base a raised margin.

0.118 m., D. 0.209 m. Restored. Fabric of medium
fine texture, brownish red throughout. Handmade.
White slip. Design in brick red: on the lower surface
of the lip, broad transverse lines; on the bowl lozenges
and a zigzag between horizontal bands; on the foot two
zones of hatched triangles, their apices down.

D. 0.028 m. Mended, small pieces missing. Fabric of
fine texture, grey at core, outer surface brown with red
mottlings. Handmade. Medium polish. On the up-
per surface of rim, enclosed chevrons, as on No. 12. Two
string holes.

outer surfaces brown. Handmade. Upper surface well
polished. On either side of handle is a crude version of a
Phoenician palmette.

0.118 m., D. 0.146 m. Chipped. Fabric of fine texture,
core grey to buff; exterior surface black. Wheel-made.
Medium polish. Incised decoration once filled with
red color; running loops below the rim; intersecting
semicircles, with supplementary curves, in the middle
zone; a zigzag at the base of the bowl.
28. Bowl on Low Foot. Pl. XXXVIII. M.S.954,
H. 0.065 m., D. 0.120 m. Intact. Similar fabric and
technique. Wheel-made. Poor polish.
29. Footed Saucer. Pl. XXXVIII. M.S.959, H.
0.059 m., D. 0.181 m. Mended. Similar fabric and
technique. Wheel-made. Better polish.
30. Skyphos. Pl. XXXIX. M.S.952, H. 0.088 m.,
D. 0.186 m. Intact. The fabric, technique and color
are precisely the same as those of No. 17 from this tomb.
On the handles a red band ending in blobs on either side
of the handles; joining these blobs, a serpentine line.
Rim red, and a broad and two narrow bands of red below
the shoulder zone. From the low foot to the broad band
four rays. Raised margin 0.011 m. wide on lower sur-
face of foot.
31. Italic Version of a Corinthian (?) Bowl. Pl.
XXXVIII. M.S.948, H. 0.81 m., D. 0.251 m. Mended.
Similar fabric but deeper in tone. Wheel-made. Two
string holes. Covered inside and out with dull brown
color except for three reserved bands on the outside and
four on the inside, between the two central of which is a
band of red. On the base is painted in dull brown a
carefully coiled spiral.
32. Jar. Pl. XXXIX. M.S.949, H. 0.208 m., D.
0.212 m. Intact. Similar fabric and technique. The
lip is flat and painted in a color that varies from brown
to black. On the upper surfaces of the handle, bands of
the same color. In the handle zone, interlocking double
curves lighter in tone, and above and below these, three
fine stripes of dilute color. Below them a broad band,
with a superadded stripe of purplish red between white
lines. On the lower part of the vase five narrow stripes
with a broader band above the foot.
33. Jar. Pl. XXXIX. M.S.950, H. 0.22 m., D.
0.217 m. Surface damage. Similar fabric and tech-
nique, except that the design paint is red. The handles
are edged with red bands, between which on their outer
faces are short transverse bands. The short upright
neck and the space just below it are red. In the handle
zone, groups of tongues. About the body, bands of
varying width and waved lines.
