trusions joined to the middle of either narrow end. The
long edges of the strip were joined to form a tube which
was then capped at either end by the circular protru-
sions. The incised ornament is applied only to the over-
lapping ends of the bracelet. Wedged between the two
ends of the bracelet is a strip of bronze, 0.022 m. in
width, ornamented with three longitudinal ridges, the
remnant of a ring from which pendant ornaments were
probably suspended.

Zigzag rope pattern above and below midrib.
45. Clay Bead. Pl. XLVI. M.S.563b, D. 0.03 m.
Truncated cone, fluted. Recovered from among the
charred bones in the cinerary urn.

31. Iron Bracelet. Pl. XLVI. M.S.573, D. 0.10
m. Mended. One fragment which completed the
circle was recovered from among the bones in No. 1.
Green discoloration implies that a strip of bronze 0.015
m. wide was wound in serpentine fashion about the entire
length of the bracelet.
32. Two Fragments of a Bracelet of Bronze
Wire. Pl. XLVI. M.S.563j. Recovered from among
the bones in No. 1.
33. Two Bronze Disks with Central Nails. Pl.
XLVI. M.S.563g, D. of heads, 0.033m. One mended
but still incomplete, the other nearly intact. Recovered
from among the bones in No. 1.
34. Two Iron Nails with Bronze Heads. Pl.
XLVI. M.S.563h, L. 0.033 m. and 0.034 m. On one
the head is intact; on the other only a bit remains.
Recovered from among the bones in No. 1.
35. 44 Small Bronze Buttons. Pl. XLVI. M.S.
583, D. 0.006 m. These do not appear in the record
photograph but they have remained in the same box
with the chain links which appear in the photograph and
were labelled with them as coming from this tomb. It
seems reasonable to suppose that they were omitted from
the photograph because of their diminutive size. In the
shanks of the buttons are preserved bits of linen thread
which are certainly ancient for they are found in buttons
which are stuck together. In one case two buttons are
attached together by the thread.

COMPARANDA
2. The unusual pinkish orange tinge with black
mottlings is nearly like that of No. 2 from Narce 27 M,
Pl. XIII, and precisely like that of No. 14 from Vulci 51,
Pl. XLIV.
3 and 4. Cf. No. 2 from Narce 71 M, Pl. VI, and
the comparanda cited under this number.
5. Cf. MonAnt. XV, Pl. XX, 3 and col. 345 g from
sepulcral groups on the Via Appia.
6. For the incised pattern cf. MonAnt. XV, Pl. Ill, 9,
Pl. IV, 7 and 5, Pl. XI, 27; CVA. Brit. Mus. 7, IVBa, Pl.
3, 15 dated to the ninth century; CVA. Florence IVBk, Pl.
11, 7, etc. The occurence of the pattern in this tomb is
a warning that all vases on which it is found need not be
dated to the ninth century.
7. Cf. No. 3 from Vulci 51, Pl. XLIV, and the com-
paranda cited for this vase.
10 and 11. The incrusted white decoration, the
patterns on the rim and the lines along the margins of
the handles are like those of the bowls, Nos. 1-10, from
Narce 27 M, Pl. XIII. With the patterns on No. 11, cf.
those on the neck of an urn, Montelius, Pl. 258, 13, from
a well-tomb on the Polledrara estate, Vulci.
12. Cf. No. 13 from Vulci 25, Pl. XU.II, which cor-
responds exactly except that its flutings are shallower;
and No. 15 from Vulci 42 F, PL XLIX, the shape of
which is the same but the pattern is painted, not incised.
