are reserved. The body is oval, the handles round and
bent at a sharp angle, the lip is high and curved. On
obverse and reverse of the neck are painted, with the aid
of a compass, two concentric circles, flanked by pairs of
waved lines. On the obverse of the neck across this
decoration is scratched the inscription shown in Fig. 66.

2. Similar Amphora. PL LI. M.S.561, H. 0.683
m., D. 0.444 m. Mended. The inscription on the ob-
verse of the neck is shown in Fig. 67.
3. Imported Early Corinthian Oinoghoe. PL
LII. M.S.548, H. 0.405, D. 0.302. Fabric of fine
texture, buff throughout. Wheel-made. Mended, slight
restorations. Painting largely effaced in the area under
and about the handle. The handle is composed of three

ropes of clay, backed by a plain flat strip. It is flanked
at the rim by disks. Fine moulded line at juncture of lip
and neck between two irregularly incised lines. Drip
ledge at base of neck. White dot rosettes on the black
ground of the disks, the lip and the neck. Three zones
of painted decoration separated by one purplish red and
two white stripes on a black ground. In none of the
three zones is the decoration centered beneath the spout.
In the center of the upper zone is a goose between two
lions the head of one of which is shown full face. On
either side of the handle are sphinxes. In the next zone
lions and sphinxes have changed places, and below the
handle, almost entirely effaced, are, from left to right, a
siren with outspread wings, a lion, and a grazing doe.
In the third zone a goose between lions again occupies
the central position; in the other half of this zone under
the handle where the surface is damaged are, from left
to right: a grazing goat, a lion, face on, a grazing doe and
a second grazing goat Above the rays and on the foot,
bands of red and white against a black ground.
