Sloane (5218-166).
The signature and date seem to be incontestably genuine. It would
appear that Diirer made an excursion in 1506 to the mountain country
north of Venice.

Pen and ink. 20.8 x 14.8. Collection : Sloane (5218-31). Postcards,

216. Head of an Old Woman. L. 737.
Charcoal, heightened with white, on reddened paper. 260 x 187. Collection:
Sloane (548-36).
This fine drawing, which in the old Sloane volume was attributed to Diirer,
has passed for many years (since about 1900) as a work of Griinewald
(Vasari Society, II, 29 ; British Museum postcards, XIII, 8) but in Vol. VI
of “ Lippmann,” Dr. Winkler restores it, though not positively, to Diirer,
dating it about 1505. This ascription is here accepted decidedly.
217. Head of a Girl in Profile, smiling. L. 232.
Black chalk. 278 x 193. Collection : Sloane (5218-53).
