Sloane 5218-117. Warlike Operations outside a Walled Town.
Drawn with the pen in red ink. 195 x 334. There are numerous inscrip-
tions, rot, pla, wasser, ertrich, gilt nit (referring to some lines on the left
which are cancelled) in a writing which closely resembles Diirer’s. It
is not accepted as his work by some good modern critics, but though it
is difficult to prove such an attribution completely, I am reluctant to
abandon it.

1915-8-23-2. Studies op Costume, with the “ geschleudert ” monogram.
Pen and ink. 210 X 121. Collections : Mariette, Wellesley, Ginsburg.
See Burlington Magazine, XXVIII, 49.

Sloane 5218-155. A Fantastic Bird.
Pen and ink. 87 X 98. Diirer Society, XII. 9.
This drawing was believed by Giehlow to be a genuine drawing by Diirer
connected with his studies in hieroglyphics under the direction of Pirk-
heimer, about 1512-14. The name of Beham has recently been proposed
by Dr. G. Pauli.
