,We shall see hereafter that the aim the poet in writ-
ing the Chaudi Kavya was to describe the glories \y£ (1the
goddess' Chandi; and he makes his heroes and heroines
fall into misfortune only that Chandi may appear in time
and relieve them. Pursuant to this plan, Chandi comes
«io the rescue' of Khullona, she appears to Lahana in a
vision and upbraids her, and the consequence is that
Lahana repents her own actions, embraces Khullona
