The ill-treatment of the English merchants
at the hands of the Venetians was a great
point for the former, and they sought to make
it quite clear how much worse off the English
trader was than the Venetian, by giving con-
crete examples. Thus, here is “a declara-
tion19 of the difference of the custom and
impost between Venetians and Englishmen,
as well for Kersies and tin as for currants.
