EAST AEGEAN POTTERY FROM NAUCRATIS

329.3. 86.537 (139). Fragment. 0.091 by 0.098 m.
Polished red clay surface; decoration in black glaze and red. Inside, black
with reserved horizontal lines and added red lines; outside, rays of a large star
below, then a group of wide and narrow concentric lines, and above them a lotus
bud and flower ornament drawn in outline and red added.

Buff slip; decoration in lustrous black glaze. Rim black; circular pattern of
large crescents in bottom.

Fikellura (Samian) Ware
330. In the red clay is a considerable amount of mica. Slip usually thin,
yellowish or red-brown, surface not very smooth. Decoration in red-brown to
black glaze, usually not lustrous; no added color remains. The guilloche, a
complicated or broken meander, and the lotus are common patterns. The frag-
ments are from jars with large mouth (kraters) or small mouth (amphorae).

From temple of Apollo.
Slip gray-buff; decoration in brown to black glaze. Band inside the neck;
band of short diagonal lines on the rim; on the neck, two series of complicated
meander broken by dotted squares; the two series are of unequal length and
are separated by solid areas of glaze.
330.2. 88.972 (129). Fragment of neck and shoulder of large krater. 0.177
by 0.109 m.
From temple of Hera.
Thin red-buff slip; decoration in red glaze. Band inside the neck; on the
rim, a broken meander; on the neck outside, a guilloche enclosed by bands; and
on the shoulder, a lotus bud and flower pattern.

Slip warm buff; decoration in black glaze. Inside of neck, black; on the rim,
a meander broken by squares with diameter strokes, dots on the edge; on the
outside of the neck, a guilloche pattern including small concentric circles.
