Dull red clay, thin buff slip inside and out; decoration in dull glaze varying
from black to violet brown. Deep bowl with small flat base and full rounded
sides; on the edge two horizontal handles flanked by small knobs. Inside, a
black band below two friezes of animals, the eyes and horse’s mane reserved but
other details incised; in the lower frieze, five dogs to right and two hares facing;
in the upper frieze a scorpion, a swan, a boar and a horse, the rest a blank bounded
at the left by vertical lines, at the right by a vertical band of opposed latticed
triangles widely drawn; on the edge and handles transverse lines; outside (-1)
at the top a band of hastily drawn concentric half circles, (2) a broad frieze of
flying birds (eagles) with barred body and wings and tail, three in one panel,
one each in two panels, in the field a rosette, a palmette or a latticed triangle by
each bird, the panels separated by enclosed vertical bands with strips of wavy
lines or bands of small double spirals, (3) band of dots; (4) band of opposed
latticed triangles, these bands separated by horizontal lines.

reserved red bands; zigzag on the edge, ladder pattern on the handles; outside,
four flying birds (eagles) with barred wings and bars or other decoration on body
and tail, and hatched triangle or meander cross in field, each in a panel bounded
by vertical band of diagonal zigzags or five-fold ladder pattern or double chain
of loops; above the panels, horizontal lines and band of short opposed bars;
below the panels, horizontal lines and band of groups of vertical zigzags sep-
arated by groups of vertical lines; on the foot, a band of groups of vertical zig-
zags, a band of short opposed bars, a zigzag, and a band of vertical bars, all
separated by horizontal lines.
