which has three spirals above and two below; above the ankle a horizontal line

On the sole, an incised inscription, now encrusted, TPYTON ETOIE^E.

Clay pale red, with fine black and white particles. Flattened spherical body,
small neck, flat lip, two strap handles. Decoration in dull black glaze and ap-
plied red, a few details incised; on each side of the shoulder, two reclining figures
in conversation, draped below the waist, and at the left a standing nude boy
with hand extended; in the field above hang two or three objects not clearly de-
fined; most of the body covered with a chequer-board pattern, the reserved red
squares with black dot in the centre; on the lip, pairs of reserved red leaves
pointing in, chequer-board pattern on the edge of lip; on the top of each handle
a band of fine rays, on the outside two small nude figures standing.

Clay very pale dull red, with fine black and white particles. Body in form
of a tubular ring. Decoration in dull black and red; on the sides, concentric
black lines and two red bands on either side of a band of black ornament; on one
side a band of small squares with a large dot in each, on the other a band of al-
ternate latticed loops and latticed Vs pointing out; on the outside of the tube
a painted inscription MPA5ALKEPOIE5E.

Clay pale dull orange, with very fine black and white particles. Body el-
liptical, cut off at foot and at neck; plastic female head with flat lip on top in-
serted to form the mouth. Decoration in brown to black dull glaze; on the
body horizontal lines, broken by an abbreviated meander in the middle, and
by a band of reversing chevrons near the neck; archaic face with protruding
pointed chin, eyes painted with black lines, and hair black; traces of radial bars
on the lip.
