82. FLINT LOCK GUN. Stock in walnut slightly carved. The barrel is octagonal at the breech, changing
into the round shape towards the muzzle. The barrel is engraved in parts and above the breech a portrait
bust and laurel wreath are chiselled in relief. Signed: Lazaro Lazarino. On the lock the above portrait
bust is repeated twice, viz. once on the lock plate and once on the cock-screw. On the lock the signature:
Vincenzo Alzano, in a shield supported by a cupid. The same portrait bust in high relief is repeated on
the prolongation of the butt-cap, on the trigger-guard, and on the shield behind the breech.
Italy about 1700. Length 140 cms.
83. WHEEL LOCK RIFLED GUN. The stock is in fruit-tree wood, inlaid with steel filigree and adorned
with an escutcheon showing a cross. The octagonal barrel is dated 1683 and bears the mark: armoured
arm holding a sword. On the lock plate the same date. Wheel box and lock mounts is engraved
bronze.

84. WHEEL LOCK RIFLED GUN. Stock in walnut, richly inlaid with staghorn plaques and scrolls,
representing game, grotesque animals and mascaroons. Beneath the lock-box there is a mask with open
mouth; this opening seems to be a puzzle device, in connection with the lock. The lock is slightly engraved
and with the mark H. C. and the Malta cross underneath.
Germany about 1650. Length 115 cms.
85. WHEEL LOCK CARABINE. The stock in fruit-tree wood richly inlaid
with steel filigree work. The octagonal barrel bears twice the mark I. W.
over halfmoon. Plain lock; the lock box covered with a bronze plate and show-
ing the same mark as the barrel.
