The mark: I. H. J. above blacksmith hammering is stamped into it. The lock is in blued steel
and dated the same as the barrel. Wheel-box covered with engraved and gilt bronze plate.

94. FLINT LOCK REPEATING GUN. Stock in walnut. It is decorated in Dutch lacquer with “Chinoi-
series” and Louis XIV ornaments. The octagonal barrel is deeply engraved with baroque designs and
flowers. Lock, butt-cap and counterplate engraved with ornaments corresponding. (This gun is an espe-
cially interesting example of gun-craftmanship, constructed with the same intentions as No. 43.) The
balls and the powder are introduced by moving a lever which works the bronze-cone inside the lock box.
The powder for loosening the shot is provided automatically out of a small recipient connected with
the pan.
