Progress of design may only be formulated in connection with
technical, social, and cultural progress. Por industrial prod~
ucts, the criterion of truth shall be derived from their social
relevance, from the objective conditions of their origin, and
from their cultural character.

Industrial design has got the concrete cultural aim of poten-
tially preparing the user's identification with the product.

The social conception of design therefore shall reflect the mode
of production and the way of life of the society concerned.
Product identity with differentiated needs and standards may be
sensibly obtained this way only. Valuation of the results of
design activity therefore shall be based upon its general and
actual relevance and its adequacy.

Alfred Hückler Porm-efficient factors in interactive
pondering

The ergonomic, technological, and aesthetic factors do not only
determine design individually but each factor is active on the
other two ones, too. The extent of this activity depends on the
existing priorities. These priorities shall be established
according to an exact analysis of the actual tasks, predominant-
ly by defining kind and intensity of human relations to the
product. This paper shows many examples of interactive pondering
of form-efficient fac'tors. They cover the range from fundamental
relations over connections of constructive structures and visual
design fundamentals to relations in the design process. Only
four factors may simultaneously be realized clearly. Porm-
efficient factors which have been given priority are the basis
of valuation during the design process and of valuation of
products.
