PLATE IX.

This view shows the rear of the cylindrical tomb and
that of Scaurus, with the entrances to their inte-
rior. Across the street is seen the continued
arcade, under which were shops. The arches
above these are of another terrace of houses.

found, set with a sapphirine agate, tolerably
cut, with a stag scratching itself. A low seat
ran round, upon which were urns of glass, little
bottles of the same material, and an altar of
pottery *.
