Centre-Piece (upper part).
By Carl Winterhalter, Jeweler, Munich.
Among the numerous Munich artificers in rriiniature art,
. who work entirely froro their own ideas, Carl Winter-
haltet is among the foremost; Ins worlcs all originale Irom
;i eopious artistic fantasy, which treats form, as well as
the technics necessary in the execution ol the same,
with likc paramount power. Ilc is so fully alive to the
artistic feeüng of the okl German artificers of the 15'11
and 16''' Centimes, 'that you often involimtarily, with maiiv
of Ins works, ask yourself the question which ohl master
is this to be attributed to; it is thus to be aecounted
for that Winterhalters articles — without his doing it —
have got into notable collections, although Winterhalter
— after the fashion of the ohl masters — has marked
everytliing leaving his Workshop with his goldsmiths
mark and the stamp of the City of Munich.
Besides several smaller works Winterhalter has also
sent to the Columbian Worlds Fair the work oi an
given on our l'lates 1 & 3; it is a centre-piece in silver
of abont 1 meter in height, intended for liqueurs, which
again shows the fantasy and artistic skill of the master.
