In the period 1952-1958 he studied in the State College of Plastic Arts in Poznan, under the
supervision of Bazyli Wojtowicz (diploma in 1958). Since 1970 he has been working in the Poznan
State College of Plastic Arts, first as head of the Department of Painting and Sculpture in Architec-
ture and Urban Planning, next as a professor and rector. In 1970 he received an award of the
French critics at the exhibition of the French government's scholarship holders; in 1975 he was
a visiting artist at the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York; in 1978 he received the Jan Cybis
Award.
He practises painting, graphic art, sculpture, as well as stage designing. He creates works of the
environment type, showing interest in the problem of space and optical illusions in the reception
of colour, depth and material qualities. He deals also with the theory of art.
