fn the years 1944-1958 he studied painting at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts under the
supervision of Karof Frycz and Zbigniew Pronaszko and art history at the Jagiellonain University
(diploma in 1948). He took part, among others, in the AihPotish Exhibition of Young Plastic
Artists "Against War, Against Fascism" in the Varsovian Arsenal in 1955; in the period 1956-
-1961, together with Marian Bogusz, he directed the Varsovian Gallery of Modern Art "Krzywe
Kolo". Since 1961 a lecturer at the Faculty of Painting of the Varsovian Academy and since 1986
a professor there. He received: the Jan Cybis Award for the year 1980, an honorable mention at
the First Triennial India in 1968, a prize of the Committee of the Independent Culture "Soiidarnosc"
in 1989 (for the cycle Painting o/ the Ten Commandments - Decalogue, created in 1986-
-1987), and the Doctor Lech Siudy Award of Collectors in 1999.
He is a painter and drawer, since 1956 interested in geometric abstraction that operates with
colour and texture and which translates into the language of painting the experiments from the
physics of magnetic fields.
