Mieczysiaw JANIKOWSKI SK
Zaleszczyki 1912 - Cracow 1968
In the years 1934-1939 he studied at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts under Stefan Filipkiewicz,
Wladyslaw Jarocki and Kazimierz Sichulski, while in the years 1945-1947 in the College of Art in
Edinburgh. During World War 11 he followed the combat trail of General Maczek's Armoured Divi-
sion, fighting in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. In 1947 he settled in Paris, a. o. in the artistic
colony in the La Ruche pavilion. From 1955 he displayed his works at the Salon Realites Nouvelles.
At first, he practised realistic painting close to naturalism, concentrating on landscape themes;
in the 1960s he directed his attention towards geometric abstraction.
