Wieslaw MARKOWSKI BM
Lvov 1938 - Gdansk 1978
Having graduated from the Secondary School of Plastic Arts in 1957, over the period 1957-1961
he studied architecture at the Gdansk Polytechnic, concurrently taking lessons of painting there,
under the supervision of Wladyslaw Lam and Adam Gerzabek. In 1966 he was accepted in the
ranks of the Association of Polish Plastic Artists.
He painted in oils and water-colours and created murals; he held a dozen or so individual exhibi-
tions. Critics defined him as a creator of a novel artistic value - he drew from tradition in order to
make his oeuvre contemporary but also hieratic, static and timeless.
