scene of stillness and repose steals upon the eye,
until the grand and picturesque scenery of the gulph
of Arta, including the promontory of Actium, calls
up a train of new ideas. Possibly the events of
past ages now occupy the mind in succession, and
the ideas of distance in time and space gradually
enlarging together, our attention becomes at last
fixed upon the blue mass of Pindus in the remote
distance, beyond which the ideas of eternity and
infinity of space seem, as it were, to blend toge-
ther.
