The facade of the church was altered after 1 600, when the not ungainly
portico was constructed, which still remains. If it were wished to carry out the
primitive design, so as to convey some idea of what the building must have been
in its first completeness, one might substitute for the actual facade that of the
church of Morimondo, where the Carthusians installed themselves almost
simultaneously with their brethren of Chiaravalle.
