PROKNE, PHILOMELA, AND ITYS.

Subject: Prokne holds her son Itys by the arms and seems to fly in terror from Philomela.
Philomela is dumb and gesticulates with her hands. She wears a sword by her
side to indicate the approaching murder of the boy.

Subject: Aithra clasps her son Theseus by the chin in token of recognition. He draws
his sword, not knowing his mother. He wears petasos and sandals, and near him
are two spears.
Inscriptions : Aidpa (Aithra) ; ©ecreu? (Theseus).
The artist's signature is on the handle, and is not shown here; it is incised.
