My dear Professor Wolf:
Before this letter reaches you I trust
that you will have received (nunc demum), a copy
of the Barnard Atlas, in two parts, which has been
sent to you in the name of the author, and at the
request of the editors, by the Carnegie Institution
of Washington. We shall be interested to learn
what you think of it, or to see any review or comment
on it in case you should publish anything on the
subject. Owing to the necessarily small edition
(700 copies) the distribution to individuals is
very limited indeed. The library of the Univer-
sity of Heidelberg will receive a copy from the
Carnegie Institution, as will the principal univer-
sity libraries of Europe. We hope that its value
has not been impaired by the long delay in its
issue, but the photographic prints should represent
a distinct advance over Professor Barnard’s pic-
tures of the Milky Way reproduced in Volume XI of
the Lick Observatory Publications; and they should
be of greater use for study and measurement by
astronomers.
We have had some fine weather at last,
14 clear days and nights in succession.
With the kindest regards,
Very truly .yours
