It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the
Council of the American Geographical Society has voted to
award you the Cullum Geographical Gold Medal for 1929. This
medal has not been awarded for several years because we
wished to award it simultaneously to scholars in several
different countries. You will therefore see in the printed
announcement that it has been awarded to three persons be-
sides yourself: Dr. Hugh Robert Mill, Scott Polar Research
Institute, Cambridge, England; Professor Jean Brunhes,
College de France, Paris; Professor Jules de Schokalsky,
Russian Geographical Society, Leningrad.
