the Due de Brissac, Governor of Paris. She escaped to England in 1792, but foolishly
returned, and, being betrayed by her Asiatic servant, Zamar, was guillotined, Dec. 8,

Barry, Comtesse du. The same. Morning dress, straw hat with flowers. Hubert
Robert sale, 1809. 302 fr.
- The same. 1787. Standing. White satin dress. Holds a coronet, and is leaning
on a pedestal. Painted for the Due de Brissac.
Madame Lebrun, after the Revolution, was vexed to find that the face in this
portrait had been tinted, as if rouged, since she had last seen the picture. Madame
du Barry, says the artist, did not use rouge.
- The same. Commenced Sept. 1789. Finished after the painter’s return in 1802.
Madame du Barry is shown seated under a tree, her head resting on her left hand, while
the right hand holds a lily and a rose. Simply-made yellow dress, with open neck and
sleeves fastened by gold buttons from shoulder to wrist. A white veil on her head.
Curly hair. Eyes half closed. Tripier Le Franc sale, 1883. 3,520 fr. Collection
of the Baron Fould-Springer, 1912.
- The same. 1789. Another version of the last; same pose and similar head-dress, but
dark sleeveless dress with short-sleeved white under-bodice. The right hand holding
a limp-backed book instead of flowers. Bibliotheque de la Ville de Versailles. This
picture is not well authenticated as the work of Madame Lebrun.
