reprinted by Braghirolli, from whom the relevant part is taken as follows:

COLONNA (Giulia Gonzaga), widow of
Vespasiano.
The medal of Giulia (Arm. Ill, 52, a) made (at any rate in
stucco) by Alfonso Lombardi at the instance of the Cardinal
Ippolito de’ Medici, may perhaps be the following:

Described thus by Magnaguti, Med. Mant., p. 124,
no. 139, from a MS. of Casa Cavriani (1830), and ascribed
to Alfonso Lombardi, on what authority is not stated.
From the description it does not appear whether she is
represented as a widow; as she ought to be, since the
medal was made after the death of Vespasiano (13 Mar.
1528). She had married him at the age of thirteen, and
he died while she was still very young.
MEDICI (Ippolito de’), Cardinal.
614. That Lombardi made a medal of the Cardinal (who
was his patron) is stated by him in the above-quoted letter.
Arm. Ill, 52, b.
Milanesi suggests that Lombardi’s medal of Ippolito is
that at Florence (32 mm., Arm. Ill, 219, B', Sup., no. 635;
Heiss, Flor., ii, p. 202): HIPPOLYTVS MEDICES,
bust r. with curly hair and short beard; all in wreath.
Rev. Woman seated r. before a lighted altar on which she
pours a libation ; in r. cornucopiae and branch ; beside her
seat, shields; plain border. In spite of the fact that his
cardinalate is not mentioned (it dated from 1529, when
Ippolito was only eighteen or nineteen) this piece can
hardly be earlier than 1529, judging from the age of the
sitter. In style it resembles a medal of Alfonso I d’Este
(Arm. II, 90, 7; above, p. 36, note on no. 154), and neither
appears to be so early as the time when Lombardi was
making little medals. The same obverse occurs with the
reverse: ‘INTER* (olive-spray) *OMNES* (olive-spray), comet
(lulium sidus) between six stars; all in plain circle within
wreath. London (George III), f 38 mm. After-cast. The
reverse is the impresa designed by Molza for Ippolito with
reference to Giulia Gonzaga; see Giovio, p. 53.
MOLZA.
615. The medal mentioned by the artist in the above-quoted
letter was presumably of Francesco Maria, the Modenese
poet, 1489-1544, of whom Aretino in 1545 mentions a medal
by Leone Leoni. Arm. Ill, 52, c.

PAUL III.
616. In a letter of 6 May 1536 to Federigo II Gonzaga
Lombardi, according to Milanesi, says that he had made
a medal of Paul III. Milanesi apud Arm. Ill, 53.

TEBALDEO.
(Arm. Ill, 52, e.) The Tebaldeo of whom Lombardi
says that he made a medal is presumably the Ferrarese
poet Antonio Tibaldeo (1463-1537). There are two forged
medals of this man; one is a recast of a medal of Gianfran-
cesco Marascha by Lysippus, with a recut inscription [Burl.
Mag., xiii, 1908, p. 278, and below, note on no. 798); the
other is a restitution the obverse of which may possibly go
back to an original of the early sixteenth century, but not
necessarily to a portrait of Tibaldeo. Its description is as
follows:

wearing berretta with back-flap hanging, and
cuirass.
Rev. No inscr. Venus nude, holding palm,
riding on a shell, supported by a sea-monster;
two tritons blowing conches, and above two
Cupids holding a crown over her head.

TETTORI (Andrea de’).

‘Ancienne collection B. Fillon.’
So described by Armand (I, p. 129); as he does not give
the diameter he presumably does not describe it at first-
hand. It was not included in the Fillon Catalogue of 1882.
Concesa is a small place in Lombardy near Trezzo on the
Adda. Of Tectori nothing seems to be known.

BENTIVOGLIO (Ginevra di Ercole), Mar-

619. Obv. (leaf) GENEVRA BENTIVOLA ▼ MARCH a
