WHEN ACTRESSES LAUGH

Seono hogging by some of tlie lead-
ing film actresses is disconcertingly spread-
ing these days in Bombay studios.

On the sets of Pardes, of which
Madhubala is a co-producer, director M.
Sadiq was shooting a scene in which
were featured Madhubala, .her leading
man Rahman and Baby Shakuntaln
Rahman was the central (igure of the
scene. The scene eould not be shot
successfully because Madhubala disturbed
the 'take' evorytime by giggling. As
many as 18 'retakes' were cut before
Sadiq broke for lunch in the hope that
food and mangoes might bring Madhubala
round.

After lunch, shooting was resumed.
The lines were rehearsed. Rahmam took
up position. Recording was in order.
The 'take' was announoed. Hut then
Madhubala again had her tit of laughter.
The first retake' had to he cut; and
then the second. And the third and the
fourth and the fifth. Twenty! wo 'retakes',
in all, Rahman could stand it no more.
He walked off the sets in anger.

Some other actresses also have at
one time or another been guilty of
scene-hogging. Some weeks ago Suraiya
in 3ala;n so consistently wreckod a shot
in which Masood played opposite her
that ultimately the director had to
leave Masood completely out of that
scene.

Rehana played the same trick
against Rajkapbor in Sargarn; Madhubala
against Motilal in Hanstc Ansu and Rehana
again, this time, against Prem Nath in
Sagai-Indian Scene.

SECOND NIGHT PERFORMANCE
OF KARNARJUNA AT
- KALIMPONG

( By Our Staff Reporter )

Kalimpong, Kept. 10./

That amateur stage players in remote)
sub-divisional towns with limited resources'
are also capable of giving high class
"pct'i'orinaiico on improvised stage was
evident frcm tho dramatic performance
that was wilrtwsjjed hero when the
Kalimpong Begali Samity staged Karn-
orjuna tonight in the local Town , Hall in
aid of the Child Welfare G'cntrej/Ciorklia
Dukh Niwarak Sanimalan and the Benga-
li Samity. To-night's show saw a marked
improvement in acting and stage technic
over the previous night work and tho
players also gave a better account of
themselves. Most of the technical de-
fects, due more to oversight than to any
tiling else, pointed out by the art critic
in theso colums of the 10th inst. were
removed tonight.

The battle scene, the final parting"
of Kama and Aijima, the Swayarabar
Sabha and the court scenes left long
lasting effect on tho spectators who
showed their appreciation with several
spontaneous applauses, Kumari Una
Chowdhuri though only thirteen could
hold the audience with her spell of
innocence and sprightly movement and
it was creditable to see her facing
hundreds of critical eves without show
ing the least stage consciousness.

The timings were well maitained
and the hall remained full till the last
curtain fell when many including Sri K.C.
Neogy, Sri Moti Cliand Pradhnn and
several elderly ladies Were heard heartily
congratulating the management for the
splendid performance.
