long standing. Dr. Shyama
Prasad Mukherji is its
President, Hon. N. R.
barker, Dr. Srikumar Ba-
nerji Ph.D. and A. K. M.
Zakeria are the Vice-Presi-
dents. Samity has • the
honour to have H. E.
The Governor as its Patron.

One of the main objects
of the Samity 's to give
facelities to Non-Bengali
speaking people of India
and abroad to learn rich
Bengali language. To
attend this object Samity
has opened several Free
Bengali coaching classes
in and outside the province
and are conducting them
successfully.

From the last year
the Samity has opened
some Free Bengali Coa-
ching Classes in Darjeeling
District and are conduc-
ting such classes in tic
ton n of Darjecling (one
of which is for Nepali
and other Hill women)
and others at Kurseong.
Mine, Margarett Tea Ins-
tate and Gangtok. The
Samity has recently pub-
lished Saral Bangla Nepali
Path—a bi-lingual primer

TORTURE IN NEPAL

has sent the following
Telegram to His Highness
the Maharaja of Nepal :

Calcutta en-route to Delhi.
Sri Gurung will be staying
at Calcutta for a couple
of days before leaving for
Delhi. At Caloutta Sri
Glining who is also a
member of the Defence
Committee' of Government
of India is likely to hold
consultations with mem-
bers of West Bengal Minis-
try regarding the present
situation of Kalimpoug
specially in connection
with the impending indijai
of people from Tibet to
this place. He has studied
the present situation here,
during his this stay at
Kalimpoug and it is hoped
that he will bo able to
give concrete suggestions
to the Government of
India on .some very knotty
problems confronting the
External Affairs Ministry
at Delhi.

Sii Gurung was at
home last evening to some
of the leading citizens of
the town. Mrs. Gurung
and children are also
accompanying Sri Gurung
to Delhi."
