TEESTA IN SPATE
ROPEWAY TRESJLE DAMAGED ,
Deputation to Railway Chief
Kalimpong, Sept. 16.
The Teesta water level recorded
an abrupt twenty feet rise in one hour
this morning. Some black oily substance
was profusely seeD floating on the water
surface. This abrupt rise indicates that
some dam might have given way some
where in upstreajyf. Countless heavy
logs & uprooted trees jaro flowing down
the stream. An important trestle ,of the
Kalimpong Ropeway! ( Trestle No. 74)
has been seriously damaged and there
is no hope of the Ropeway working for
another month or so. A deputation
consisting of Sri Rameshwar Agrawal,
President Merchants ' Association, Sri
Deochand Mintri^ President Chamber of
Commerce, Sri Kesajri Chand Banlhia
representing the Tibet Cotton (.'loth
and Yarn Supply Syndicate and i Jewan
Shivasaranlal, the Tibet Liaison Officer
has left Kalimpong I this morning for
Kurseong to discuss transport problems
with Colonel Singha, Chief Administrative
Officer of the Assam Railways.
