EMPLOYMENT EXCHANGE
Function & Working

' Government of India, Ministry of
Labour have set up Employment Exch-
anges all over India to help employment
seekers to find jobs suited tc their
qualifications and experience and to
assist employers in finding workers
required by them. One such Employment
Exchange, is set up at Darjceling
(Secretariat Building, Darjceling) which
deals with employment seekers and
employers of Darjceling, Cooch Behar,
West Pinajpur, Malda, Jalpaigur: and
.-ikkim, as these six districts comprise
its .Jurisdiction.

Employment Seekers apply to the
Exchange for registration of their name?.
< ithcr by post or in |Hrson. when full
details of their qualifications, experiences
i ts , are recorded. Exchanges also
register details oi available vacancies
which I'inplciMis notify to them. The
registered employment scek< rs who possess
necessary qualification and experienc
are considered for each vacancy notified
by the employer, and arrangement for
interview by the employer is made. The
employer then makes his selection and
appoints the candidate he consider*
best stiitid to this requirements. In the
ease of candidates who are not accepted
fur appointment the Exch mge continues
to make effors until suitable employment
is found, provided of course the candidates
concerned keep the Exchange informed
from lime to time that they still need
employment assistant .

The Employment Exchange, Par-
jeeling, has a Mobile Section attached to
it which visits distant places to help
distant applicants and employers in
registering the former snd assisting the
latter in filling up urgent vacancies.

Employment Exchange, however do
not create jobs, but make effort to fill
vicancies notified to them by employers.
The Exchanges do not also fix wag»s
and other conditions of work which rest
entirely on the employers.

This Organisation aims to effect
scientific recruitment of manpower for
national planning ml also to collect
statistical informations regarding
employment and unemployment in the
country, it is essential that all employers,
both Government and Private, should
extend their hearty and sincere co-opera-
tion to the Organisation, which should
be considered a National Organisation
in Kri'e India, as the task bestowed on
the Organisation is too big without all
round co-operation, particularly from
employers in the matter oi" their
recruitment. '
