INDUSTRIAL KALIMPONG

KAUMPONU is facing dull days at
present mepite of the election cam-
paigns. Kvery year this time the town
used to be lull of Tibetan merchants
selling wool and buying various items of
merchandise for markets beyond the
high mountain |icaks. Changed circuius
tances in Tib St of to-day is largely
responsible for this lull and tie- merchant
class specially is very hard hit This
is all the more felt because here we
have only one type of trade the trade with
Tibet in absence of which Kalinipoug
has no importance from business point
of view-which is a serious problem for
the trading community of the locality
to consider. And at this very time we
are glad to publish elsewhere in this
number an article by Sri Pradhan who
draws our attention to industrial possi-
bilities in theso parts. If we can success-
fully harness our water resources, and can
turn it to our advantage in the industrial
development of our locality, 'shape ol
thing in Kalimpong would be brighter
and our dep ndenee on a particular type
of trade gone. We cannot always, look
toward government for help in such
matters in the begining but once the imita-
tive is taken by some enterprising industria-
list, our present government, we are sure
will always be ready to assist us.
