disappointment and despair over the
scarcity of food and cloth and or other
essential commodities In our despair
and disappointment let us not lose our
judgment, let us not lose sight of I he
fact that the preliminary condition n -ce-
ssarv to solve this and other problems
is to have a strong and stable Govern-
ment. On the eve of the Klection let
us adequately realise what a critical
period our 4 years old infant nation has
been passing through sinite our Indepen-
dence
Through this period the Congress
Government have well maintained Law
and Order. There' has been no chaos.
cHiifu'ion or anarchy. There has been
no insurrection no bloodv revolution — no
successful invasion of th' eonntrv and
no involvement in foreign wars. We go
about our normal life taking these as
a matter of course. We rend every day
in news paper reports of what has been "
happening in the South Last Asian
Countries. We do not feel thankful to

able achievement that such things have
not happened here—and that because
the Government have been strong and

attack is the failure of the Covernment
to tackle the food problem. It is true
that food situation is disappointing and
even ilespcra:e. But is the change of
the (lovt. the remedy for it T Do you
expect a spectacular ptentifnlness cf rice
by a change ol the Govt.?
The prtsent Govt, have given first
priority to the food question The Govt,
have imported more rice than ever in
the history of the country. The Defence
Badget has been reduced lo an irredu-
cible minimum to pay tor such imports
cultivation is being stopped up—modem
scientific methods are being introduced.
But you cannot expect in the economic
t-pheres miracle to be performed by the
Government, Let not tie- Voters bo
mislead by promises of plenty from the
change in the Government,
This is ihe first Qeneral Klection
under the Republic. Electors arc taking
a fautul decision. The destiny of the
nation dejiends mi it. Let the decision
be with a full sens- of nsposihihty on
