EJECTMENT NOTICE ON
GUMTI WALL AS

Siliguri, Jan. 20.
Many people are earn-
ing their bread at Siliguri
by erecting '' Ghurati "
( small temporary shop )
on the P. W D road side.
Most of these people are
refugee**. Durinp his last
visit at Siliguri Honourable
Sree Bhupati Mazumder
assured the=e Ghumtiwallas
that, they will be allowed
to continue their bu incss
till the new municipal
market was opened. But
suddenly like a thunder-
bolt these ghumtiw.allas
were served with a notice
that they should remove
their lihumties by the
28th January, 1951. To
raise their viice against
this order, the Ghumti-
wallas of this town brought
out a procession and para-
ded thrrugh the streets
shouting slogans. They
assembled in the court
compound and met the
S. L>. 0. After a long dis.
cussion the f-'.D 0. assured
them that only the Ghumti
of the refugees will be
allowed to continue till
any suitable arrangement
was made for them. The
Presi lent of the Ghumti-
walla Association has sent
telegrams to all concerned
stating these facts. Dr.
Shyaraa Pr sad Mukherjee,
in his reply tothe telegram
has informed the president
that their case has been
forwarded lo the Premier

students, staged a hunger
march on the 27th instant
and paraded through the
streets of Siliguri shouting
slogans and demanding
supply of rieeat reasonable
price The S D. 0. arrang-
ed to sell rice at a bit"
lower rate in the Siliguri
Hat on the 2Sth instant.
The import was scanty.
It is reported that some
rice was looted in the hat.
The price of rice has gone
sky-high. The authorities
should be on the alert
to save the lives of the
poor people. 1

Siliguri, Jan. 27.
Republic day was
observed here yesterday
in right earnest by the
public of Siliguri Every
house was decorated and
National Flag was hoisted
every where. In the after-
noon a ceremonial parade
of the local military unit
and the police was held
for favourable considera-
tion. It .is reliably learnt
that the Govt, has sane
tioned a good amount for
the establishment of a new
market at Siliguri. But,
for reasons unknown, the
work is showing very slow
progres .
