Darjeeling elections
took place on the 9th
January, 1952, in a peace
ful atmosphere. It fras
apparent that more people
than Kurseong or Kiliguri,
voted in the Darjeeling
Cnnstituenov
The Municipal of
Darjeeling was very busy
with the movement of
voters. The three Candi-
dates belonging to Con-
gress Party. Communist
Party and Gorkha League
were found strolling from
booth to booth supervising
the work of their respec-
tive polling .gents. The
Municipal area became
over-crowded with the
influx of propagandists /
belonging to different >poli- /
tical paities from the out/
lying sub-divisions. Trucks
and Jeeps were crowding
in the main streets of j
the town and making
their way in the adjacent
rural areas too. Minor
incidents took place in the
town when Gorkha League
and Congress volunteers
started abusing each—other
in violent and unbejeoning
way. Several persons were
arrested under tne Rep-
resentation of the People
Act for violation of the
Conduct of Election Rules.
Brisk canvassing was

Himalayan Times dated
Dec. 30, 1951, under the
Caption •• Triple Voice of
League ” stating that the
Assam^ Gorkha League is
supporting the Congress.
1 should like to let
you know as well as the
General Public that the
Gorkhas of Assam have
not supported the Congress
but have already decided
to fight in this ensuing
election -independentally.
The reason of our fight
in this election is because
Gorkhas are the wrost
sufferers under the Con-
gress regime.
