Community Projects
To day

As we face today another August 15,
live years after 191-7, where do we stand?

The eight millions of refugees hare
been, more or less- absorbed, most of
them housed, large numbers of them
provided with the. means of livelihood
Much yet remains to be done. It was
a hard task, -'enturies could not be
replaced overnight

Meantime giant factories have already
sprung up and many more are in the
making—the Chitaranjan Locomotives,
the Sindri Fertilizers, the. Banglore
Machine Tools, the Hindustan Ajr Craft;
the ship-building yards, the automobile
factories, the engineering - schools and
colleges, the institutes of higher techno-
logy. the big laboratories of science.
Yet, more and more are coming in. More
are' vet to come to serve the increasing
needs of the people.

The giant multi-purpose projects are
forging ahead, projects which will bring
more water for irrigation, more electri-
citv- to supply power to factory and light
to town and village Tractor and bull-
dozers are blasting the jungle, reclaiming
vast tract of virgin land. New towns
and villages are springing up for the
increasing population. But the plenty
we looked lor is yet far off. We still
need to import cereals in order to meet
the demand for two square meals n day.
We need steel to run our industries.

The Nasik Printing Press can print
more notes it may be argued. There is
enough jrap r in the country and so
also ink. But notes do not produce the
food, nor the clothes nor * he housing
materials, nor the other ameni’.ies that
we expect in Ram Raj. These can be
prod need only with the muscles and
with the technique and the will behind
the muscles.

We still cry Tnquilab zindabid.' Inqui-
lab against whom? It is hardly six months
now that the country made its choice
of the people that should govern the
land. The servants of the state^ be they
from the old official cadre or (mm non-
official cadre of yesterday, are our own
people and represent the very belt we
can get. Dedicated to the cause'-of the
nation, they must bo harnessed to the
service of the people. Inq-iilnb, if it is
to come, must ih refo <* come within
our ownselves, in oi r approach to our
selves in our approi h to our neighbours,
in our approach to the (Jowrnmmt, in
our approach to the world abroad. What
is this new approach ? What is the new
inquilab we should put our combined
shoulders to the wh**vd for ?

As a nation we are hungry we are
diseased, we are ignorant. A hungry,
diseased and ignorant man is least suited
for freedom, much less suited for the
