POST OFFICE

It is heartening to find the Post Office
resuming normal service inspite of heavy
odds in the slip area on the Siliguri-Kalim-
pong road. We suggested previously also
that the local postal authorities should
always he prepare 1 tor such eventualities
and higher authorities should vest them
with powers to cope with unforsecn diffi-
culties whenever circumstaces require it. It
should not he a matter of great difficultv.
for instance, if the higher authorities vested
local postal authorities with a discretionary
monetery grant. This could be used in a
time of emergency to pay for mails car-
ried over any sudden breach on the road
which may occur and would obviate delay
in references to higher authorities for finan-
cial sanction which at present leads to
mails being blocked and delay which in-
conveniences the public and dislocates
business. The local postal authorities are
to be congratulated for recent arrivals of
mails despite hazardous road conditions
though some of this credid must go to
the press and other business institutions
which publicised public grievance on earlier
de'av.

FOOT BALL

Nearly eighteen teams have entered
for the Satal Singh Memorial Shield and
Pandit Sudama Challenge Shield and
from the 27th inst. the public will be treated
to further series of exciting matches for the
trophies. Football in Kalimpong has cer-
tainly contributed a great deal to public
entertainment during the dull monsoon days
and the public are grateful to the organisers
who are responsible for arranging the
tournaments, the generous donors of the

various trophies, and the keen interest and
enthusiasm of the players. Kalimpong public
is now football minded ami with our exeel-
lant playing field we hope I lint in 'the
future also Kalimpong will continue be the
venue of leading tournaments in the district
and it would not be too ambitious if from
time to time we could invite w—II known
outside teams to compete with local t dent.

SRI L. R. JOSSE CLARIFIES

Sir, For the sake of clarification
I have to seek the hospitality of your
magazine which, 1 hope, you will not
deny me.

My attention has been drawn to
a few publications in ‘ Cork ha ’ &

‘Himalayan Tames” lately. The contro-
versy is obviously between two groups
of Gorkha League. In the way my
name occurs therein it is likely to mis-
lead your readers. Hence 1 have to
make it clear that I am no party to
such sectional politics nor have I any
interest left in the League affairs.

Having disassociated myself from the
organisation of my own volition much
before the controversy under reference
started the readers will appreciate that
I have been made a scape-goat & my
name exploited by each to his own
advantage. Yours etc. L. R. .fosse.

THANKS
Dear Sri Jain,

Please accept my grateful thanks for
your kind and active co-operation in
making the last Independence Day Cele-
bration a success. It *is not possible
for mrt to write to all individually and I
shall therefore be glad if you kindly
convey my appreciation to all your
friends who ungrudgingly took part

in the celebration. Yours sincerely, B. B.
Mondal, f a s., S.D.O., Kalimpong.
