DARING BURGULARIES
!N DARJEELING

Darjeeling, Oct 15
Two burgularies took
place on the night of 11-
10-52 and in the early
morning of 12-10 52. It is
learnt chat the first one
took place at 9-0 p.m.
when the keeper of a
store shop situated in
Mt, Pleasant Road which
is surrounded by othor
numerous shops and resi-
dential quarters was ran-
sacked. In the absence
of his victim who had gone
home to take his dinner
the culprit lost no time
in breaking the lock of
the shop and helped him-
self with cash and valu-
ables to the extent of
Rs.200.
The other burgulary
took place in the early
hours—at about 4 30 a.m.
at Central Hotel, Darje-
eling whin a visitor on
holiday went to see the
Sunrise at Tiger Hill. The
culprit evidently having
scented of his victim’s
joyful trip to tiger hill
Uid not lose the oppor-
tunity of breaking open
the hasp and ransacking
the room of his victim only
to surprise the visitor on
his return that 8 costly
sarees of his wife, 2 costly
suits of himself and a few
other items had been con-
veniently removed. Fortu-
nate for the visitor he had
carried his purse containing

Rs.2000/- with him or else
that also would have gone.
It is also reported
that on the night
of the 1st burgulary a
hat trick attept was made
by trying to break into
another store shop and
although the lock was
broken this attempt to the
disappointment of the cul-
prit was foiled as the shop
was closed from inside and
a man was sleeping in it.
The culprits are at
large while police enqui-
ries continue. Jeep acci-
dents and burgularies are
finding quite a place now
in the news.

Three of the top
ranking poets and play-
rights of Nepal visited
Darjeeling recently.
A very large gathe-
ring gave the poets a
rousing reception at the
O.D.N.S. Hall at a public
meeeting on Saturday the
11th Oct. 1962. Of tho
erudite poets Kavi Lekh-
nath is a sceptagenarian
and is the doyem amongst
contemporary Nepali
